UNIONS
LAUNCH AD BLITZ IN NATION'S KEY MARGINALS AGAINST UNFAIR IR LAWS
15 April 2007
Australia's most marginal federal
Liberal seat will lead off a national advertising campaign against
the federal government's unfair work laws.
The message of the campaign is that
the IR laws have made workers sitting ducks, and that slowly but
surely, they will lose their pay and conditions.
The campaign will have a double
impact, with television and advertising beginning in South Australia
and nationally today, along with a matching, massive letterboxing
campaign targeting marginal seats.
Some 50 volunteers will today begin
delivering 10,000 leaflets to voters in the southern suburbs
electorate of Kingston, held by the Liberals by a mere 0.1%.
Volunteers will also begin delivering
leaflets to voters in the other key marginal electorates of Makin
and Wakefield.
SA Unions Secretary, Janet Giles says
the aim is to show workers what they stand to lose, and win their
support to overthrow the Coalition and restore fairer laws.
"The sitting duck analogy is very
apt. Workers are in the government's crosshairs, and their
entitlements are being shot to pieces."
"It's important to realise that NO
WORKER IS IMMUNE. Every single employee in Australia has the
potential to have their rights stripped away by these work laws."
"The voters in marginal federal seats
have a crucial role to play in securing Australia's future.
Their vote will be the difference between low pay and unfair
conditions, or a balanced system that strengthens our nation's
future", she says.
