Give Us a Voice
Word & Music:
R. Petchell

Verse 1
As a migrant I came
To make a new life
And I build the cars
On the assembly line;
But we were treated like dogs
Chained to that line
But I couldn't speak your language
So I couldn't complain.
Verse 2
As a refugee I came
Fleeing torture and war
Now I'm a trimmer
On the fact'ry floor
But I'm always frightened
Of getting the sack
So I don't speak up when the
Supervisor's on my back.
Chorus
So give us a voice
Give us the choice
To have our say
Teach us your words
So we can be heard
And have our say.
Verse 3
From China I came
To learn your language
But then Tianenmen Square
Happened
So I can't return
A pianist, I was
Taught at university
But now I work the presses
And worry about my hands.
Chorus
Verse 4
With hopes and dreams we came
To make a new start
But we haven't always
Been made welcome here.
We have our own ways
Which we'll never forget
But we've given so much
To the culture here.
Chorus twice
