ALP REVEALS IR POLICY - AND IT'S CLEARLY DIFFERENT

17 April 2007

South Australian workers will welcome a pledge by Labor leader Kevin Rudd to reinstate unfair dismissal rights.

SA Unions Secretary, Janet Giles says Mr Rudd's pledge to give workers a right of appeal if they've been unfairly sacked is a clear and defining difference between the ALP and the Coalition.

"This is the clear policy difference that our members have been waiting to hear", Ms Giles says.

"This is Kevin Rudd's first step in presenting himself as an alternative Prime Minister, and he's doing so with fresh ideas and a very different approach to the current Government."

"Workers have been stripped of their rights - the government's own research says so. Kevin Rudd has taken note, and is giving them back their rights, while also balancing the needs of business", Ms Giles says.
