The Young Workers Legal Service (YWLS) is an initiative of SA Unions to assist young workers under the age of 30 with employment related issues. The Young Workers Legal Service has been set up to address a need discovered by SA Unions through a large number of calls from young people asking for legal assistance and through the activities of the U Who? Network.

Young workers are often significantly disempowered and disadvantaged in the workplace and are unsure of what legal remedies are available to them to address their concerns. There is a need for young people who are not members of unions to be able to access legal advice and information to assist them resolve disputes in their workplace and if necessary access the legal system to have their grievance dealt with in the relevant jurisdiction.

The Service aims to assist young workers to become aware of their rights and options, assist them resolve disputes at the workplace and if necessary externally through the legal process, and ensure that they have access to individual and collective advocacy throughout their working lives as members of trade unions.
